Job Title:           Lead UNIX Systems Engineer

My client is looking for a Lead UNIX Systems Engineer for UNIX systems administration and management of multiple servers in development, QA, Production, Production Pilot and Participant Test environments.

Principal Responsibilities:
• Project management of multiple critical Distributed Systems Infrastructure projects. Coordinate the day-to-day tasks and appropriate resources assigned to those projects.
• In conjunction with other systems responsibilities, Project Managers will establish project requirements, coordinate staff activities and perform engineering duties for all aspects of Server Systems and Application Deployment, Support and Administration projects. The Project Manager will ensure projects are completed on time, satisfying specified deliverables.
• Perform new product evaluations and Testing associated with distributed server systems environments
• Assist Tier 1 & 2 support staff members on complex server and application type technology problems.
• Perform IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, and Linux Server system administration, including installation and customization
• TCP/IP network configuration and tuning
• Share in a rotating coverage schedule for off-hour and weekend emergency situations/planned maintenance, which includes remote system access
• Design and implement systems UNIX monitoring infrastructure for performance management and capacity planning.
• Service Center Incident, Problem and Change Management
• Perform all aspects of UNIX systems administration associated with the Backup Systems
• Perform Software Maintenance Release Updates for systems management
• Perform Server Maintenance, Upgrades and Tuning associated with Monitoring and Backup software
• Server Monitoring: Gather performance and statistical information
• Manage vendor relationships and perform new product evaluations of various technologies surrounding the Internet-based applications.
• Render assistance to Customer Support, Web Technologies Group, Database Administration, Communications and Network support and Application Development and Maintenance staff members on complex problems.

Experience:
• Strong experience managing UNIX Server environments
• Strong experience in UNIX Server management, including OS Installation and configuration
• Strong experience with the UNIX Server software installation, configuration and tuning

Knowledge and Skills Required:
• Strong project management and leadership skills
• Ability to work independently or with a cross departmental team
• Must have a working knowledge of the ITIL framework.
• Ability to install configure and maintain Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and Linux server Operating Systems
• Strong inter-personal and communications skills, making presentations to an internal audience,
• Ability to train junior staff members in UNIX fundamentals and writing basic documentation
• Ability to troubleshoot and track complex system problems, using all available resources, (vendor support, online documentation), to completion
• Possess an expert knowledge and skill with most aspects of UNIX systems administration.
• Understand storage systems maintained by EMC Symmetrix (DMX), Clariion
• Must be customer focused and understand the Systems Administration needs of the organization

Education, Training &/or Certification:
• BA or Equivalent Experience in Computer Science / Information System Management.
• Trained in current releases of Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and popular Linux distributions Server Systems Administration
• Trained on multiple Server Hardware Platforms
