Job Title:
Senior Scientist - Assay Development
Key skills:
IVD, Immunoassays
Location:
Cambridge, UK
Duration:
Permanent
My client is an early stage, funded, in-vitro diagnostic company designed to
deliver distributed diagnostics, with centralized data and real-time results.
The goal is to develop and market point of care devices and disposables for the
physician’s office laboratory. My client will create high quality, low
cost systems designed to revolutionize patient care by providing real-time
patient test results to the physician during the period of a patient’s clinical
visit. Their technology will set a new standard of healthcare.
They are looking for a Senior Scientist for their newly created Advanced
Technology Development team. This team focuses on carrying out feasibility
studies to increase the company’s breadth of menu, especially in the areas of
clinical chemistry and immunodiagnostics, and to enhance the organizations
technology portfolio. The successful candidate will work with management
and a multidisciplinary development team to research, define and develop new
assays for the novel Point of Care system.
My client offers a stimulating professional environment in a dynamic, execution
oriented organization. The position provides an excellent salary and benefits
package including participation in the company’s stock ownership plan.
Responsibilities
This position is a hands-on role that provides technical leadership to the team
and carries out feasibility studies and initial development work to provide a
pipeline of products to the organizations core R&D team. The successful
candidate will be responsible for the research, design and execution of all
experimental investigations required to take ideas through to proof of concept
and to ensure the smooth transition into core R&D. In addition, the person will
be responsible for staff career development and training appropriate for an FDA
/ ISO design control environment. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong skills
and experience in executing the following responsibilities.
• Lead a staff of scientists developing clinical chemistry and immunochemistry
assays based on electrochemical sensor technology for a point-of-care system.
• Design processes that have “on-board” sample separation and assay formats
compatible with microfluidic and capillary flow mechanisms.
• Liaise with external collaborators, where appropriate, to ensure the effective
transfer of technologies into Advanced Technology Development.
• Supervise scientists reporting to him/her to assure work execution, compliance
to QSR policies and technical training/career development.
• Work closely with cross-function teams to ensure feasibility studies are
appropriate for my client's needs and are in line with the organizations
business strategy. This will include working with Business Development and
Marketing as well as the core R&D teams in both the US and UK.
Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes
• MS or Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Immunology, Clinical Chemistry, or
Analytical Chemistry.
• 10+ years experience in the IVD industry or 5+ years in the IVD industry with
a further 5+ years in a senior role in a hospital clinical chemistry laboratory
environment or similar.
• Excellent laboratory skills and the ability to take concepts and theories and
transform them into well defined experimental procedures – a knowledge of D.O.E
and other statistical tools would be of value but not essential.
• Knowledge of clinical chemistry assays and immunoassays is essential –
hematology would be an advantage.
• Prior supervision experience leading groups of 3-5 persons.
• Prior experience working in a cross-functional development team.
• Knowledge of microfluidics in assay design would be a significant advantage.
• Some experience in circumventing Intellectual Property would be of value.
• Strong communication skills and IT literacy are required.
• A highly motivated self starter is required for this role. Please email a word version of your cv quoting Ref. No. 7b01f and call any time
