Job Title:               Senior Development Scientist - Particle Analysis

Key skills:             Laser Light Scattering, Real Time systems, Spectroscopy

My client develops, manufactures and markets advanced particle analysis and rheology systems, used in many industries

They are looking for a Senior Development Scientist to contribute to the design of cost effective and reliable components and systems as part of the development of the instruments range of products.

Responsibilities
• To provide the Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mathematical or other scientific contribution to the design of the instrument's range of products.
• From time to time to take on the role of Project Manager.
• To ensure the design follows laid down Codes of Practice and methodologies.
• To participate in the development of products as part of multi-disciplinary project teams
• To solve product problems as they relate to the operation of the instrument system or the science of the measurement liasing with other technical specialists as necessary.
• To liaise with suppliers in defining the choice of components with particular emphasis on key sensors and state of art technology.
• To assist in training courses for internal and external personnel.

• Innovative instrument and mathematical algorithm design
• Accurate and precise instrumentation systems
• Instruments designed for manufacture/test
• Understanding of instrument error budgeting
• Contact with customers
• Good relationships with suppliers

Skills
• Graduate Physicist, Chemical Engineer, Mathematician or equivalent. PhD in relevant discipline may be useful.
• 3 - 5 yrs. experience minimum in an instrumentation development environment with specific experience of real-time systems, Laser Light Scattering, Photon Correlation Spectroscopy or Acoustic Spectroscopy and / or related subsystems
• The ability to solve complex systems problems using a combination of sound experimental technique and good analytical understanding is of particular importance at this level.
• Good experimental techniques, mathematical modelling of systems, ability to present complex arguments simply both written and orally
• Ability to write computer programs for modelling particularly in C or C++ and /or experience of tools such as MATLAB would be an advantage.
