Job Title: Software Engineer - Robotics
Key skills: C#, .NET, Control Systems

Our client, a leading developer of systems in Cell Biology is looking for a C#
software developer to join a small team in porting legacy robot control software
to the Microsoft .Net platform. The role requires the candidate to develop an
understanding of the existing software and robots before implementing new
control applications in C# using bespoke control libraries.
The role will involve work on all aspects of the development process from
specification through design and implementation and finally testing,
documentation and product maintenance.
Responsibilities include:-
" Understand the requirements of the system and develop a suitable design and
implementation
" Document the implementation and use the documentation created by other team
members
" Be involved in review and testing of other team member's work
" Monitor the daily build process and resolve any issues as they arise
" Provide technical knowledge for user documentation
" Provide assistance to the Customer Support department to resolve issues in the
field
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have 2 to 3 years experience of using C# for Windows
application development. Some experience with Microsoft C++, Visual Basic and
SQL Server would be beneficial. A first or 2:1 degree in Computer Science or a
closely related subject
Strong communication skills are required to work on multi-discipline research
and development projects alongside mechanical, electrical and optical design
specialists, biologists and support staff. Ability to work in an agile
environment where prototypes provide early feedback and an evolving
specification is essential.
A desire to gain experience in a diverse range of technologies is essential as
the software includes many facets such as motion control and hardware
interfacing, image acquisition, processing and analysis, database interaction,
user interfaces, process control and related systems. DirectX is used for motion
simulations and data visualisation.
