Job Title:           Thin Film Process Engineer

Key skills:        Thin Film Deposition, Polymer Materials

Location:           Cambridge, UK

Duration:           Permanent

My client is looking for a Thin Film Process Engineer.

Job Purpose:

  • Demonstrate practical deposition skills with specific tool experience on sputter deposition, vacuum deposition and spin coating.

  • Provide information and understanding of the key parameters related to process control.

  • Define and document the current process to the required level of detail.

  • Integrate with Process and Engineering groups to help understand daily requirements.

  • Provide relevant technical process knowledge to allow the future development of key processes.

  • Understand and advise on the principles behind other deposition methods: inkjet print, spray coating.

Key Result Areas

  • Provide well understood and defined thin film deposition processes.

  • Demonstrate a good understanding and working knowledge of polymer materials and metal films.

  • Become involved in and lead continuous improvement teams, providing process knowledge and understanding to help resolve yield failures.

  • Plan and implement relevant experiments to help optimise deposition processes

  •  Develop operator/technician training regime and monitoring system to enable the equipment uptime to be optimised.

  • Develop production control methods/SPC and also relevant data collection methods.

  • Provide and implement suitable process documentation to ISO 9001 standards.

Competencies sought :

  • Degree qualified with at least 5 years experience in a relevant manufacturing environment.

  • Strong problem solving skills, the ability to approach tasks in a structured manner and the tenacity to resolve ongoing process issues.

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • High attention to detail when recording and reporting results/experiments.

  • Personally well-organised and good interpersonal skills.
